5 Things About The Infinite Warfare Multiplayer That You DEFINITELY Need To Know - Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Multiplayer Information

Next game in the Call of Duty Franchise is Infinite Warfare. So with this being another Call of Duty title we can expect a good campaign mode and we have been told that will be getting a zombies experience. This is all very good, but, what about the multiplayer part of the game well this is arguably the most important part fo the game because lots of people won't even touch the other modes they will just spend all their time in the multiplayer mode. Therefore, I am going to count down 5 things about the Infinite Warfare Multiplayer that you definitely need to know.

5. Combat Rigs

This has changed the way that the multiplayer experience feel because there is now this class based part to the game that we have not had before. There are 6 different classes that you can choose from including:

  • Warfighter - Mid-Range Assault (built around a mobile mid-range style of combat)
  • Merc - Heavy (focused on defense and heavy suppression fire)
  • Synaptic - Close Quarters (optimized for speed and close quarters combat)
  • FTL - Assassin (experimental technology built around guerrilla tactics)
  • Stryker - Tactical Support (geared for squad support and area of denial)
  • Phantom - Marksman sniper (specializes in concealment and long-range engagements)
The important thing about these is that each of them plays differently. This means that you will have to pick a class that fits your play style or you will have to change your play style to fit the Rig that you have chosen. Each of the Rigs will have two Payloads and three interchangeable Traits. If you would like to read more about each of the Rigs then click here. Something that is very interesting in Infinite Warfare is that you can swap and change your combat rigs mid-match so you don't have to wait to the lobby screen to change your Payload which is a nice feature.

4. Maps

The maps play in a very fast paced style. This is because Infinity Ward focused on trying to get the player to the action very quickly after they respawn. They have stuck with the 3 lane structures that have proven to work best in previous Call of Duty games. Infinity Ward has tried to make it so that you will see more head to head combat. Also, as to be expected with the 3 lane structure there will be certain points where there will be lots of action. As you may know, the Infinite Warfare Multiplayer was playable at CODXP and the 5 maps people could player were:
  • Frontier - Set in a space station what is orbiting Neptune. There is a long central corridor with side-paths that you can take. The map is very close-quarters in some parts meaning SMGs and shotguns are best.
  • Throwback - This map is a look back at a 1950's "main street USA" location which sits on a huge rotating space station. There is a large lane that goes around the perimeter in a circular fashion. Also, there is a large square in the center or the map with multiple avenues allowing you to get into the middle of the map.
  • Frost - This map is a research facility set on the surface of Jupiter's moon Europa. This map has lots of opportunities for verticle combat and a chance of lots of rapid encounters.
  • Breakout - This map is set in a remote snowy, earthbound mountain top. This map is set in the maximum-security Black Mountain penitentiary. There are opportunities for ranged combat on this map and there is a contrast with some tight fast paced battles that can happen in the cellblock.
  • Terminal - A dynamic range of combat areas are set both in and around the futuristic spaceport on the moon. This map is a remake of the fan favourite Modern Warfare map "Terminal".
At this point, we are not sure how many maps there will be in total.

On top of this, a new feature to Infinite Warfare is that there is a heavy focus on callouts. For example, in Hardpoint the announcer will say.describe where the next Hardpoint is located on the map.

3. Gamemodes

Most of the classic game modes are definitely making a return. Modes like Team Deathmatch and Domination will be returning. As well as bringing back the classic game modes they are, also, making an emphasis on e-sports game modes like Hardpoint, Capture The Flag and Search and Destroy. Furthermore, Infinity Ward has created 2 new modes that were playable at CODXP including:
  • Defender - in this mode teams rush to hold a drone that is placed in the middle of the map. Teamwork is essential with passing and support fire to help keep the drone.
  • Frontline - I couldn't find much about this game mode.

2. Weapon Classes and Crafting

There are basically two types of weapons in the game. There are ballistic weapons and direct energy weapons. Ballistic weapons are modern performance guns that shoot bullets. However, direct energy weapons are more like lasers and some have unique damage effects, also, they slowly regenerate ammo over time.

So let's talk about the Weapon Crafting. You will earn crafting currency known as Salvage. The Salvage that you collect can be used to craft weapons. Simple enough right? Well here is where is get slightly more complicated. The prototype weapons that you create have built-in perks that affect the gun. All of this is based on a coloured system with different rarity. The top rarity is EPIC and the weapons that are epic will look ridiculous, but, they will have game-changing weapon perks.

Equipment has had some more focus put on it and a lot of the equipment seems to actually be useful now instead of just being there like it was with other games. Something that is pretty cool to know is that you can throw equipment with one hand and still use your weapon at the same time.

1. Mission Teams

This is a new feature to Infinite Warfare that we have not seen before in any Call of Duty. This adds an extra layer of progression on top of the standard progression. So your player level and weapon level are still there, however, you can now rank up your mission of themes and challenges. You get to choose between 1 of 4 the mission teams and you join of the mission teams. Then you are given objectives and commanders that give you objectives and goals. This is aimed to push players to do something that hasn't done before by using different weapons or playing a different game mode in order to unlock more progression.

Each team has exclusive unlocks which could be exclusive:
  • Call signs
  • Camos
  • Rig customisations
This shows that Infinity Ward is trying to reward players for playing the game how they want. So depending on your play style you will earn certain items.
